It is the intention of this pledge to promote fair play and respect for all participants within the Langenburg Minor Hockey Association. All coaches will be asked to sign this pledge before being allowed to participate in Hockey and must continue to observe the principals of fair play. If I am selected to coach or assistant coach by LMHA, I agree to (check each box to indicate agreement):

act with integrity in performing all duties owed to the athletes, the sport, other members of the coaching profession, and the public

maintain the highest standards of personal conduct and support the principles of fair play

act in the best interest of the athlete s development as a whole person

take full responsibility for all rules as set out by LMHA, SHA and CHA

treat everyone fairly within the context of their activities, regardless of gender, place of origin, color, sexual orientation, religion, political belief or economic status

direct comments or criticism at the performance rather than the athlete

consistently display high personal standards and project a favorable image of the sport and coaching

refrain from public criticism of fellow coaches, athletes, officials and volunteers, especially when speaking to the media or recruiting athletes

abstain from the use of tobacco products while in the presence of her/his athletes

abstain from drinking alcoholic beverages when working with athletes

discourage the use of alcohol in conjunction with athletic events or victory celebrations at playing site

ensure that the activities being undertaken are suitable for the age, experience, ability and fitness level of the athletes and educate the athletes as to their responsibilities in contributing to a safe environment

communicate and co-operate with the registered medical practitioners in the diagnoses, treatment and management of the athlete s medical and psychological problems. Consider the athletes future health and wellbeing as foremost when making decisions regarding an injured athletes ability to continue playing or training

recognize and accept when to refer athletes to other coaches or sport specialists. Allow athletes goals to take precedence over your own

regularly seek ways of increasing professional development and self-awareness

treat opponents and officials with due respect both in victory and defeat and encourage athletes to act accordingly. Actively encourage athletes to uphold the rules of their sport and the spirit of such rules

in the case of minors, I will communicate and co-operate with the athlete s parents or legal guardians, involving them in management discussions pertaining to their child's development

conduct practices and games in a manner so as to allow optimum success by being aware of the many pressures placed on athletes as they strive to balance the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of their lives

ensure the safety of the athletes with whom they work

acquire the proper certification prior to January 1, 2023. Failing to do so will result in termination of my coaching position as of January 1, 2023 and I will be fined $100.00 per violation
